  2. Logos and Mascots

There are many advantages and disadvantages to having a mascot. One advantage is that it is a memorable way of publicizing your business, however if you choose a bad mascot, it may be ridiculed and not taken seriously which would result in bad publicity. Another disadvantage related to choosing a bad mascot is that the company may lose a lot of money if they choose a wrong mascot and once a mascot is chosen to represent the business, it is very hard to change it and get the public used to a different mascot. On the other hand, if the mascot chosen is appropriate and memorable, it is a very effective way of advertising.

Different mascots are aimed towards different audiences. For example the McDonalds mascot (Ronald McDonald) is very brightly coloured and is a fun image created to appeal to children, but on the other hand 7Up’s mascot (Fido) is very simple but still looks cool and appeals to teenagers and adults.

An effective mascot is essential for good merchandise. An effective mascot needs to be:
    • Memorable
    • Appropriate for the business its advertising
    • Easy to advertise
    • Consistent
A mascot could be used as a logo or image and put on different products such as T-shirts, mugs, hats, jumpers and more. It could also be made into a toy of some sort.

Mascots and Logos are important for businesses but they also need to be kept in their place. If too much emphasis is placed on the face of the company but not on what happens in the business itself then no matter how much publicity you get, the business will lose money because it won’t be able to hold onto its customers.

  3. I think the need for a company mascot/logo is important because it will be easier to identify a certain company and their logo and also make the company stand out. Without any type of image or logo or mascot it would be difficult for customers to identify that company and make it hard for them to be recognised for their products. It will also be a plus point for a different range of age groups such as children by creating a mascot with bright colours and appealing to young kids. Mascots can also be used for different audience such as sport, companies. Possible merchandise advertisement could be stuffed toys, key rings, mugs, jumpers, stickers and car products.

Company mascots can be important to a business, but it depends on what the company is selling. For example, a law firm who want to convey a professional image may not want to use a mascot, whilst a food product company with a more informal image may decide to use one.
Advantages of having a company mascot include:
    • Creates and identity for your company
    • Social Media allows your mascot to interact with potential customers and captivate an audience
    • Appeals to a lot of people
    • Now that mascots are more common, they don’t seem as childish to older customers
    • Can be used in advertising campaigns to sell the product/service and are memorable
    The disadvantages are:
    • Some mascots only appeal to a certain audience
    • Some mascots get annoying over time (e.g. Go Compare)
    • Creating a relevant mascot can be difficult
Mascots can also be a new source of income. Products and merchandise related to the mascots could be sold. An example of this is M and M world in London, where lots of merchandise related to the company mascots is sold (as well as M and Ms).
Having a mascot can make your company look childish and immature, e.g Frosties. However, mascots with a formal image are possible, like Admiral Car Insurance.

    Successful Company Mascots:
    • Colonel Sanders (KFC)
    • Ronald MacDonald
    • Michelin Man
    • Tony Tiger (Frosties)
    • Energizer Bunny
    • M and M men
    • The Green Giant (Sweet corn)

  5. Logo’s and Mascots

There are many advantages to have a mascot such as...

-Helps people remember your business in a way
-Draws you in by making you interested in the business but without putting you off by the disadvantages
-Having a cute, fun, happy mascot eases the trust issues
    -More entertaining
-Makes you feel less threatened if you have an easy going, cute mascot
-Encouraging the public to use the site more often by using a friendly, cute, easy going mascot

However are there are a few disadvantages as well, such as…

-If you choose a bad mascot then you are likely to use money
-If you choose a bad mascot you are likely to loose publicity views
-If you choose a bad mascot it is very to change it and get the public views back up

You need to be very cautious with picking your mascot as you need to make it how you think a mascot would appeal to the age group you are choosing… such as if you wanted to make a mascot that would appeal to children, you would use bright colours and animals/cartoon to catch their attention, like McDonalds logo (Ronald McDonald). However if you are planning to you make one to catch the older publics eye (teenager, adult, elderly) you would use dull colours but an image to capture their attention such as “QUAKER” as they have used suttle colours but enough to catch peoples attention.

For the merchandise you could use it on many things, such as:
    Key rings
    T-Shirts
    Jumpers
    Toys
    Wrist bands
    Badges
    And Hats

    Edeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!!!!!! :D

  6. What are the benefits of having a company mascot? There are many benefits of having a company mascot and something to represent your company. One thing that benefits is that it is a ‘softer’ sell than a traditional sales pitch. The mascots offer a more friendly and approachable side to the company. Mascots are also unique and specific to your company only so it can provide advertisement opportunities as well such as if people see your mascot around, they automatically think of your company. Mascots also tend to be memorable as well so this can help people link the mascot to the company. The mascot of your company, depending what type of company you are, can be made into merchandise which will increase profits. E.g. a football mascot can be put on t-shirts, mugs, made into toys etc. Mascots can also help interest and excite the specific audience you want for your company. For example, a children’s toy producer would have a cartoon or something with bright colours to interest the child whereas a bank may have something very simple but professional to interest adults.

What are the doubts of having a company mascot? Although there are a lot of benefits for having a company mascot, there are also a fair share of disadvantages and doubts that company’s face when introducing a new ‘face’ to the company. A lot of companies believe that having a mascot and that side to their company is too childish and juvenile for their image. Mascots can also be misguiding and sold to the wrong audience. Your company’s mascot might not appeal to your desired audience and customers and this could affect your company and its sales etc. For example, if a big cartoon cow jumps across your screen advertising a jewellers, people will remember it but for the wrong reasons and may be put off as it doesn’t seem professional enough.

What worked well? A lot of mascots have proven to be beneficial for companies and one of the main ones is KFC. They introduced the face of the man who founded the company and it gives a very personal touch and homely feel to the company.

  7. Why have a company mascot?

I feel having a company mascot is very important. Having a company mascot can have advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of having a company mascot are:
    • They gain attention.
    • They increase awareness of the company.
    • They make the company memorable.

    Disadvantages of company mascots are:
    • They can be annoying.
    • They can become repetitive and boring.

The success of a mascot can be based on whether the company have matched the mascot with their target audience.

Mascots can be very good for making a company money. There are a number of merchandise possibilities. For example mascots used in football and the Olympics look to sell things such as:
    • Costumes
    • Clothing (t-shirts)
    • Mugs
    • Key rings
    • Cushions
    • Cuddly toys
    • Jewellery
    • Posters/canvases

Having a mascot can create an image or reputation for the business. This is a good and bad thing as if the public don’t like a mascot it can effect the business’ reputation. However if the public like the mascot, it can create a good image for the business.

An example of a good mascot is Mailchimp. Site visitors are bound to be attracted by this well-designed chimp that greets them on the very first page. Apart from that, this chimp mascot is illustrated in such a way that it roughly represents what the website is all about (i.e. email marketing). People will then effortlessly remember what the website is about upon recognizing the mascot.

  9. Mascots
I think that a company should have a mascot because it represents the company and makes it stand out,

    Advantages
    • Highly effective in creating awareness, building loyalty and importantly, selling the product
    • Mascots create media exposure and excitement. At community events, the mascot is often photographed for print media or filmed for TV news
    • Create enthusiasm for any sporting event, fundraising event and participation in a program
    MERCHANDISE REVENUE
Team marketers can create merchandise based around a mascot. This gives fans a chance to bring a piece of their mascot home while increasing a team's revenue stream. A mascot can be booked for public and private appearances, allowing for even more revenue opportunities. Any team should be able to create a celebrity status for their character. It is not uncommon for some teams to charge up to $600.00 per hour for local corporate events. Make frequent use of the money making power of a team mascot.

    Disadvantages
    • Very expensive
    • it may not to be linked to your company

    • could give your company a bad name if your company chooses the wrong mascot

  10. Mascots

An advantage of having a mascot is they give you a chance to communicate in person with someone; it is also a better seller as you can be approached by a mascot and not be worried. Also a mascot can give a good friendly reputation to a company and also is better to appear on a T.V add. Some of the disadvantage’s are that it is hard to find someone to be a mascot as its requires an always friendly attitude and to be in a suit for a certain amount of time in hot or cold weather which can be very uncomfortable. Also mascots are hard to come up with as you need to base it round you company and make it suitable but also friendly to public views.

The target groups are a problem as the mascot needs to be suitable for people over 18 and people over 60. This means that designs and presentation of mascots are crucial so they do not affect anyone in anyway.

There are a lot of merchandise possibilities by using a mascot, you can make teddy’s to appeal to kid, a key ring for teenagers, mugs for adults and plenty of other products that can promote your business’ mascot. This would help with popularity and would also give your business a boost with money or if you don’t want to except money you can give the money to charity to improve popularity of your mascot and
    business.

Successful- The Geico Gecko- He speaks with a proper British accent, and overthe years has evolved from pleading with the public to stop confusing him with Geico and into a
    devoted spokes creature.
Unsuccessful- Ronald McDonald Clown- He has gone down hill and is not a favorite by young kids anymore as most are scared of clowns but also he has been round for to long and is not like he used to be.

  11. I think that company mascots are a important part for a company because it makes the target audience feel more safer and happier knowing that the company has its own warm and friendly mascot. Also a good mascot can add to the entertainment experience for the company users
    Advantages
    • Makes the company users feel happier
    • More relaxed
    • Have vibe in the company
    • Warm and friendly
    • Easy way of selling products in a company
    • Creates a excitement at a community event
    • Creating enthusiasm
    • Attracts new customers
    Disadvantages
    • Sometimes mascots don’t appeal to all customers
    • Not all customers like mascot’s
    • Customers may be offended
    • Not all mascots are appropriate for the company
    • Could Makes the company look childish
Most mascots would have to have a target audience. If they were childish then the company’s not going to get far but it would need to be unique and relate to all target audiences. company can create merchandise based around their mascot. This gives the company’s users a chance to bring a piece of their mascot home. This would also bring more money into the company. the reputation mascots could make could make the company look childish. or rough looking.

    • Can place them on websites and social networking sites to advertise you company.
    • Can become the face of the company.

Overall, I feel that a company should have a mascot as the face of their company as it can create other opportunities in the field of selling products of your mascot. It also lets your company be remembered as the mascot will be the image in which your company is remembered.

  14. Company Mascot, Is It Important?

Company Mascots have been developed in that past few years for advertisements. Mainly company mascots have been back in favour and have been used for marketing brands in a whole new way. Most mascots have provided personal touches to cooperate images that were once surely lacking. A good mascot can give laughter and a lighter mood by producing it with a child’s enthusiasm.

Using mascots can give you many advantages, such as:
    • It Increases the exposure of the company
    • Appeals to the human psyche
    • Builds brand recognition of a product
    • Attract new potential costumers to learn more about your company
    • Gets families to visit
    • Used as an educational tool
    • Creates enthusiasm within any age range
From this we know that using mascots for a company or anything can be very useful and can put a huge but good impact onto a business.

HOWEVER, there are some disadvantages of using a mascot, such as:
    • Can be ford
    • Depending on age range could be a bit to childish for adults
    • May not attract the right kind of people
    • May not put a good impact on your business

Using mascots depends on what age range you want it to be aimed at. If for example you were to use a cartoon of a giraffe used for a business it wouldn’t attract a lot of people because they might think that is a childish business with not a lot of maturity.
However a bit of child’s enthusiasm would be good for the business to get people smiling and laughing, this would be a good impact for whatever company because a lot of people would feel better to be smiling and laughing within the business.

When business chose a mascot they also have to think about the merchandise ideas they would include. For example if they was going to make things like key rings, cushions, teddies etc. If a business was to produce more and more merchandise it would attract more people. They would also gain profit and would be able to become a more popular company.

If a company used an original and creative mascot that people kept buying and talking about it would produce a good reputation it would be good because it would put a good deal onto the company that made it and they would gain popularity.
But if the mascot wasn’t original and people had seen it before, people would think that it is boring and people may not be as interested as they would be if it was original. So we think that the more original it is, the better it is for the company.

An example of a successful mascot would be Ronald Mcdonald for Mcdonald, this is because he is still well known, he is also good for little children because a lot of children like cartoon things. He is colourful and an easy mascot to remember. This had made McDonald’s a very successful company due to the advertisement they use for him and the marketing.

We believe that company mascots are important because they help the business create advertisement and success. They can be aimed at all age ranges and will attract the right and good people.

  15. The Company Mascot article

    Advantages –
There are a few advantages for having a company mascot. The following would be classed as an advantage for a company mascot. Firstly, it’s highly effective in creating awareness, building loyalty and most importantly selling the product. A company mascot is also good as it creates media exposure and excitement. Also at community events, mascots are often photographed for print media or even filmed for news on TV.

    Disadvantages –
There are not as many disadvantages as there are advantages. Firstly, a company mascot might not be for all ages and could even scare younger children and would lead to complaints and the company would then have a bad reputation. Or if the mascot was offensive to a race or religion the reputation would also be bad.

    Target Groups –
The target groups would have to depend on what the company’s product is. For example the mascot for a Disney land would be aimed at younger people. Another example is a beer mascot would be aimed at the older generations. And finally a sports mascot would be aimed at all ages.

    Merchandise possibilities –
The merchandise possibilities for the Olympics would be things like the following, Mugs, Teddy bears, t-shirts, jumpers, hats, pens, flags, posters and many more accessories.

    Image and reputation –
The image and reputation of a mascot would create a positive reaction if the mascot was aimed at the right age groups. Also the mascot would have to be colourful and memorable to keep it in fashion and to make sure people remember it. Also the name of the mascot would need to be something memorable but simple as then it’s easier to remember.
    Successful and unsuccessful mascots –
The McDonalds mascot is very memorable and has been successful; this is because it is very colourful and is aimed at the all ages. Then the Sunkist monster has been said to be unsuccessful because it’s making kids eat to much sweets and therefore children are not eating healthy and are having bad health diets which isn’t good for the society.

  17. Mascots

I think that company mascots are important but also not important depending on what the company is. There are many advantages of having a mascot, such as it can represent the company in public, they get attention and noticed so if you had the mascot outside the company people will stop and see what they have to say. Increased awareness of the company because a good mascot is memorable. So it the mascot is appealing to an audience if they see the mascot they will think of the company such as the gecko for Geico. Some disadvantages of having a mascot could be that it is offensive to someone or a religion. It could scare younger children.

Many mascots are designed for different types of people and ages. Such as the mascots of the Olympics which can appeal to different types of people and can have many different merchandise possibilities.

There can be many merchandise possibilities such as mugs, small toys or pens and others.

The image of the mascot has to be good and give the company a good reputation and appropriate for the company.

  18. Why have a company mascot?
The advantages of having a mascot in which it is important are:

    • Recognition of the mascot so that people will know what company it is when they see the mascot.
    • Appeals to the public.
    • Creates an identity to your company.
    • Social media allows your mascot to interact with potential customers/ customers.
    • Mascots are more of a softer sell than traditional marketing ploys.
    • Advertising campaigns are more entertaining when they are centered on regular mascots.

The disadvantages of having a mascot:

    • Only some mascots appeal to certain audiences
    • Some mascots get boring and overused
    • Creating a mascot that is relevant to the company can be hard sometimes

Mascots can appeal to certain groups depending on the choice and type of mascot a company has chosen. For instance, a company that has a cute cuddly bear as their mascot, they will appeal to the younger audience and the company can create merchandise; toys, clothing, costumes ect.

The image of the mascot can create a large reputation. Many companies have a sort of theme to their mascot so that it is annoying and sticks in your head. This is one way that a mascot can get a large reputation. The mascot can also create a reputation by making it look childish so it looks good to the younger audience.

Here are some successful mascots and not so successful mascots that you may or may not recognise: KFC, Mcdonalds, windows, nike, adidas and Viglen.
